Where were you on 09/11/01?
This day brings, so many of us, memories ranging from fear of the unknown to the joy of hearing a loved one's voice.
Please post your story of where you were the morning of 09/11/01, if you would like to share.
I'll share mine at the end of today.

Hubby & I just got back from our first trip to Vegas. He was home sick, because of a stupid cold he caught on the plane ride back. I was at work when one of my co-worker's husband told us about the first plane that hit the WTC. When the second one hit, I called Hubby at home to turn on the TV. He was still a little groggy from cold meds, so when he turned on the TV and saw the twin towers burning, he asked me if this was some sort of movie. He thought it was fake.
It wasn't until after noon that the company let us go home from work, which was much later than most other companies. So driving home, which is only a 10 minute drive, was the eeriest, quietest ride ever. No other cars were on the roads. You really didn't see anybody outside.
What at strange, sad day it was ...
I was living in Japan, and my husband (he was still my boyfriend at that time - we got married less than a month later) was in Korea, on a short jaunt to renew his tourist visa for Japan. He called me in the morning to tell me what had happened - the youth hostel he was in had CNN and everyone was watching it all night. I remember just feeling terrified about what was going to happen next. As a kid I had a terrible fear of nuclear war, and all that fear just came rushing back, and I was convinced it was going to be World War III. I didn't see any pictures or video until later, but I spent all day being scared. I tried talking to my students and co-workers about it, but Japanese culture isn't really big on sharing bad news or difficult emotions, so I felt really alone. It was all just so horrifying and it didn't seem real at first.
I was sitting outside my speech office when one of the grad students stopped and told me. I went inside and got online just as the second place hit and then went and sat back outside in shock. My coach walked up and I said "Did you hear?" We went inside and sat and listened to the radio as I tried to call my family and friends in NYC and DC.
The world was so quiet.
At home, woke up to the news story. I had flown home to be there by my cousin's bedside as he died 2 days before. We were going to have the funeral on 9/12, but they couldn't get the body through from the city where it was in PA b/c of the crash in Shanksville (b/n us and the hospital).
My Dad also worked near the Pentagon at the time. Scared me stiff b/c of course I couldn't get through to him.
Thank you all for commenting, I know it is painful to dig through these memories. 9/11 is one of those days that just conjure up alot of emotion for me personally. Through your comments, I can tell you poured heart and soul.
Again Thanks for sharing.
